Preanesthetic Blood Work $40.00-Before surgery you will be offered pre anesthetic blood work for your pet. This blood work will help us determine how well your pet will do under anesthesia. The liver and kidneys are the two organs that are required to metabolize (break down) the anesthesia. This blood work gives us a good idea how these organs are functioning and how well they will be able to metabolize the anesthesia. Blood work is required on pets over 8 years of age and is highly recommended on all other pets.

Rabies Vaccination

$10.00

Rabies is a virus that attacks the brain and central nervous system. It is transmitted by bodily fluids from an infected animal. The most common form of transmission is a bite wound.

Dogs and Cats in Texas must be vaccinated by a veterinarian by the time the animal is three months of age, then given a booster 12 months after the initial vaccination. All puppies/kittens and dogs/cats with no history of previous Rabies vaccination will be required to have a Rabies vaccination in 12 months after the initial vaccination. Thereafter, the animal must be vaccinated at intervals of no longer than 36 months.

Statutory law (Ch. 826, Health and Safety Code) empowers local jurisdictions to establish more stringent rabies vaccination intervals than those outlined in the amendments to the Rabies Control and Eradication state law. If your city or county requires animals to be vaccinated against rabies on an annual basis, area pet owners must comply with that requirement. Contact your city or county animal control agency for information on local rabies ordinances.

DA2PPC + CV (1 year vaccine)

Distemper- Distemper is a disease that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. The disease is very contagious and is spread when bodily fluids such as saliva, urine, or tears from an infected dog become airborne. Signs of distemper include fever, runny nose and eyes, diarrhea, weight loss, and seizures. Almost half of the dogs that get distemper eventually die from the disease.

Adenovirus Type II- A virus causing respiratory infection. Hepatitis is a disease caused by adenovirus and can affect the liver, kidneys, eyes, and other organs. It is very contagious and is spread when healthy dogs ingest urine, feces, or saliva of an infected dog. Signs range from slight fever, congestion, and temporary clouding of the eye (a condition called “blue eye”) to prolonged bleeding, severe depression, and death.

Parainfluenza- Typically a mild respiratory infection in otherwise healthy dogs, it can be severe in puppies or debilitated dogs.

Parvovirus- Parvovirus is a serious disease that attacks the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Dogs usually become infected when they ingest the feces of a contaminated dog. Parvovirus can survive in the environment for long periods of time and is very contagious. It can be spread through dogs’ hair or feet or through contaminated shoes, cages, or other objects. The disease can cause fever and loss of appetite, as well as diarrhea and vomiting that can quickly lead to dehydration. In severe cases, dehydration can cause death within just 48 to 72 hours.

Coronavirus- A highly contagious disease causing dehydrating vomiting and diarrhea in dogs of all ages. Especially in young puppies dehydration can be fatal.

Leptospirosis- A disease caused by bacteria (germs) that can be found in all mammals. The bacteria are spread through the urine of infected animals or people, and can live in polluted water. Wild animals, like rats or raccoons, that have the bacteria in their urine can urinate in puddles, ponds and other water sources; thus, contaminating the water. This disease is not as common as some others that are more familiar such as parvovirus and distemper. However the Flower Mound and Lewisville area has seen a surge lately in Leptospirosis cases. Some of the confirmed cases are indoor animals that are just going outside to play in the yard or to take walks.
