Oral & Dental Care
One of the most commonly overlooked areas of pet health care is oral and dental pet health care. Animals, like humans, need to have care taken of their teeth to prevent decay, indigestion and infection. That is why it is so important that you bring your pet into a clinic to have regular oral and dental check-ups.
When promoting the health and longevity of your pet, think of providing a steady, healthy oral health care regime. Not only will you help your pet feel more comfort and ease, you will also help maintain its overall health. Poor dental care can lead to serious health problems such as; lung, kidney and heart disease.
Our clinic utilizes the same instruments your dentist does. We use an ultrasonic scaler to remove plaque and tartar and then polish with a high speed polisher. Occasionally, severe disease in the mouth causes the tooth roots to break down requiring teeth to be extracted (removed). This entire process is referred to as a dental. A dental is performed under general anesthesia and the same rules apply as for a surgery.
Rules for surgery are as follows:
- DO NOT feed your pet 8 hours prior to surgery.
- Cats must arrive in a carrier.
- Dogs must arrive on a leash.
