F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My pet is having surgery, should I feed or water my pet?

A: No, pick up all food by midnight the night BEFORE surgery, so your pet does not eat after midnight. Water is OK.

Q: How old does my pet need to be to be spayed, neutered, or declawed?

A: We will spay, neuter, or declaw a healthy pet as early as 3 months of age.

Q: When does my pet need to arrive if he is having surgery?

A: For all surgeries:

  • Sunday in Lewisville: Arrive at 11:00 am to drop off all patients for surgery. Pickup time for all surgery patients will be 3:30 p.m. that afternoon.
  • Tuesday in Lewisville: Arrive at 3:00 p.m. to drop off all patients for surgery. Pickup time for all surgery patients will be 6:30 p.m. that afternoon.
  • Saturday in The Lewisville: Arrive at 8:00 am to drop off all patients for surgery. Pickup time for all surgery patients will be 12:00 p.m. that afternoon.

Q: Do I need to make an appointment?

A: No, an appointment is not necessary. The clinic operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Since the clinic does not have an appointment schedule please be prepared to wait. We work as quickly as possible but sometimes a wait is inevitable. Please note that the busiest clinic times are when we first open and when we are about to close. If you are trying to avoid a wait, you may try to plan your visit mid-clinic. (Please note that surgeries must arrive within 15 minutes of the clinic opening.)

Q: Is pain control available for my pet after surgery?

A: Yes, an injection of pain control is available after surgery for a fee of $22.

Q: Is pre-anesthetic blood work available for my pet?

A: Yes, in house pre-anesthetic blood work is available for your pet. Blood work helps us to analyze the function of the liver and the kidneys, which are responsible for metabolizing (breaking down) the anesthetic. Blood work is required on pets over 8 years of age, and highly recommended on all other pets. A pre-anesthetic panel is $40.

Q: What forms of payment does the clinic accept?

A: The clinic accepts: cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

Q: Does the clinic make house calls?

A: Yes, the clinic is available to make house calls. You will need to schedule a time that fits the schedule of the mobile clinic. The cost for a house call is:

  • $100 house call fee
  • Plus at least $200 worth of work once we get there
  • The minimum fee for a house call is $300
  • We will make a house call for less than $200 worth of work, but please understand there is a minimum fee of $300.

Q: Why does the clinic reserve the right to decline declaws weighing over 8lbs?

A: Cats that weigh over 8lbs are most typically full grown adult cats. A declaw actually involves removing the last joint on a cats toe. After a cat is grown, this procedure becomes considerably more painful since the joint has had time to become a more solid structure. Cats that weigh over 8lbs also tend to be more painful since such a large amount of weight must be placed upon the feet. Larger cats also tend to have more problems with bleeding after surgery since the vessels in the toes are much larger than a small young cat. Other considerations for large cats that are destructive with their nails are to trim the nails regularly, train your cat to use a scratching post, and some have had success with a product that places an artificial dull nail over the existing sharp one.

Please contact us directly if you have any specific questions that were not answered here.
